PGA GOLF MANAGEMENT ATTEND CAPE VERDE DEVELOPMENT UNVEILING OF 10 YEAR MASTER PLAN FOR CALHETA BAY
?2 BILLION INVESTMENT BY DEVELOPER IN SAL, CAPE VERDE
The largest and most prestigious property developer in Cape Verde has announced a major new ?2 billion golf & leisure resort to be developed on a 425 hectare coastal site on Sal?s west coast, 10 minutes from both the tourist town of Santa Maria and the International Airport. ?Calhelta Bay?, which is scheduled to launch across Europe in 2007, will have an eco-friendly design, magnificent ocean views from 70% of the site and a mixture of landscape, including sandy beaches and rocky coastline.
The resort will feature two Ernie Els 18 hole championship-standard golf courses and luxurious ?Els Residences? which are being developed as a joint venture with the golfer. The PGA through its management division, PGA Golf Management, will manage all of the golf facilities, which will include a PGA National golf course and PGA National Golf Academy. There will be a ?Nikki Beach Resort?, a strong commercial element, along with an aqua park, golf and spa hotel, a major resort hotel, a marina which will take super yachts and a cultural experience which will tell the story of the islands. As the resort is focused on becoming one of the top ten resorts in the world, it will be developed to the highest standards but with the natural environment in mind. Under 6,000 units will be on this site which under local planning law could take over 30,000. Cape Verde is becoming increasingly popular with property investors, providing the promise of a world class destination that will compete with current popular sun destinations in the Caribbean and Europe. With new flights being added right across Europe in 2006 (the Irish and UK markets being the latest additions) there is increasingly no barrier to visiting this wonderfully relaxed, authentic archipelago of islands.
